MEREMBEH VILLAGE BAU
A Serene Village from Bau, Sarawak

Merembeh Village also known as Merembeh Caving Park was originally a community-based tourism initiative, where the management of the caves and food stalls was done by the villagers themselves. Currently it is administered and under the management of the Merembeh Bau Village Cooperative Berhad.

 

There are two large caves in this park, namely Gua Posih and Gua Kayu. Both of these caves served as hiding places for the village inhabitants during the colonial era and hold many historical artifacts.

Merembeh Caving Park was originally a community-based tourism initiative where all cave management activities and food stall sales were conducted by the village residents themselves.

CENTER FOR COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF SWIFTLET BIRD'S NEST

Collection of Swiftlet bird's nests are among the main sources of income for Kampung Merembeh.

 

The activity of collecting swiftlet bird's nests has been active in Kampung Merembeh since the 1970s until today.

Community Discussions and Meetings

REBORN regularly engages with the leaders of Merembeh Village and Bau District to discuss tourism initiatives and community development. These meetings focus on planning sustainable tourism practices and fostering collaboration between local authorities and the community.

 

By involving local leaders as stewards, these discussions help shape practical plans that improve well-being and ensure that tourism brings long-lasting, positive impacts to the village.

Experiential Tours

REBORN actively engages with the Merembeh community by participating in hands-on, immersive tours of the village such as caving, trekking and learning to make traditional handicrafts.

These experiences, guided by local experts, allow us to connect deeply with the environment while exploring the tourism potential of the area. we directly experience the richness of the area while also supporting local livelihoods by promoting sustainable tourism and highlighting Green and Gold Tourism in Bau.

Events and Conferences 

REBORN also actively host events that celebrate and promote responsible tourism in Merembeh Village, Bau District. These events are often held alongside local festivals like Pesta Tasik Biru, and conferences like World Tourism Day (WTD) Sarawak 2022 as well as International Symposium On Applied Structural Equation Modeling And Methodological Matters (SASEM) 2023, drawing in participants internationally and from across the region to the village. 

 

These events allows participants to explore the village’s attractions while fostering deep connections with the local community and environment.
